U.S. Wellness News Alert

Are You Eating the Right Cheese?
Meet Our CrossFit Team, What Our Cattle Eat,
Happy Father's Day!

June 20, 2010
Monticello, Missouri

Dear John,
Ribeyes on Grill

Best Father's Day wishes to all of the dads reading today!  Be sure and treat your dad to steaks on the grill today to show him how much he is appreciated!

Did you know June is National Dairy Month?  We are celebrating by stocking up on raw, grass-fed cheeses.  According to Eatwild.com, cheese from grass-fed cows is four times richer in CLA than cheese from grain-fed cows.  CLA is naturally found in grazing animals and is a very powerful cancer-fighter.

Cheddar CheeseIf you haven't tried one of our many flavors yet, you are definitely missing out.  Now is a great time to try the Organic, Raw Cheddar Cheese, which is on sale this week so be sure to stock up!  Our cheeses are always a huge hit at trade shows with both young and old.  See the Cheese Section of the store for a full listing of all the deliciously healthy flavors, don't forget to check out the Raw Goat Cheese also!

Speaking of dairy, we have been asked every day this month: "When will butter be back?"  Soon!  We have received word that butter is being churned this week so we are expecting it to be back in stock by July 1.  We apologize for the long delay and truly appreciate your patience.

US Wellness Meats is happy to announce an exciting new partnership with Flatirons CrossFit, a successful CrossFit gym in Boulder, CO.  CrossFit is a fitness program that is sweeping the nation and helping thousands get in shape.  The Flatirons team has qualified to compete in the annual CrossFit Games, which is getting bigger and better each year!  We will be following their progress each week as they prepare for the games and we'll follow their workouts and diets along the way.  Stop by the blog this week for an in-depth look at how they have been preparing and to meet the team.  Be sure and subscribe to our blog so you don't miss any of these helpful training tips

Ever wonder what the cattle actually eat on our farms?  Visit our blog for an in-depth post by grass-fed expert Stan Fishman about our soils and grasses and why they taste so good to cattle!  For a tour of our farms, watch The Grass-Fed Difference.

Dr. Serrano,

Can you drink raw milk if you have an intolerance to casein?  Last September I was tested for food intolerances, I tested positive for gluten & casein.  I also had a high level of inflammation in my small intestine.

Since September, I have eliminated gluten & dairy from my diet to improve my overall gut health.  I was tested again in January, at that time I tested negative for gluten but still positive for casein - my doctor told me if takes longer for the casein intolerance to go away.  In that time I also greatly reduced my small intestine inflammation though it was still a little above normal.  I read somewhere that raw milk products are OK for people with casein intolerance but I questioned that.

Thank you.

Dear Diane,

You are correct, it doesn't matter if you drink raw, homogenized or pasteurized milk, you must come off milk for a while. I don't know what type of testing or what grading you used but it is important that you stop for at least three months.  It doesn't take longer, it is just that you have continued drinking milk.

In addition, some people might be allergic to casein when pasteurized because when you heat it up, it changes the protein molecule and when it is raw you don't heat the milk.  So it is possible raw is the answer, but to make sure, you need to be off the milk, cheese, yogurt, etc. for three months.

Good luck,

Dr. Serrano

What Our Customers Are Saying

Below are comments from a SuperHumanTri-Tip Steaks Radio listener:

Carl,

I wanted to thank you for introducing me to US Wellness Meats.

I purchased grass fed beef from them based on the ads on your show.  I purchased flank steaks, grass-fed butter, beef sticks and tri-tips. The meat was outstanding.  Tender and juicy.  I've repurchased several times and will continue to do so.

Thank you for your great show.
