We are very excited to be part of the inaugural issue of PaleoMag, a new magazine dedicated to the paleo diet.  Some of our favorite people will be regular contributors, such as Primal Palate bloggers Hayley and Bill (who posted some amazing recipes using our Beef Bacon and Raw Goat Cheese!)and Sean Croxton of Underground Wellness.  The first issue comes out in May, so be sure to visit their website to subscribe, then check out their Facebook page to take advantage of lots of random give-a-ways and for more informative articles.  We are so excited for this new magazine that we decided to purchase an extra subscription just to give away to one of our readers!  Simply visit our blog this week and tell us what you want to see in the new magazine and you are entered to win a one year subscription.  But don't wait - this contest ends on Friday, and the winner will be announced in next week's newsletter.

Congratulations to our lucky PlanetBox winners - Sandra, Kelly, and Carol!  Thank you to everyone who left such helpful comments on our blog, we got tons of new lunchbox-friendly meal ideas thanks to your contributions!  If you have not visited the blog recently, be sure to read the PlanetBox post for lots of healthy ideas for your kids' lunchboxes!  If you would like an eco-friendly, stainless steel PlanetBox lunchbox for yourself, visit their website or Facebook page today!

If you will be in the Pasadena, CA area next Sunday, May 1, you won't want to miss the second annual "Real Food Symposium" sponsored by one of our dedicated wholesalers, Culture Club 101.  They have some great speakers lined up, plenty of raffle prizes, and the opportunity to purchase "real" food.  Visit their website for all the details!   For those on the East Coast, you may want to stop by the Navel Expo, at the Huntington Hilton on Long Island, also next Sunday, May 1.  They also have an impressive group of health and wellness speakers as well as an endless array of booths to stop by.  We will be there also so be sure to stop by and say hello!

We are hearing more about the high levels of toxins in our bodies, and the endless ways that we encounter these toxins.  We were lucky to get one of the first copies of Dr. Jeffrey A. Morrison's new book: Cleanse Your Body, Clear Your Mind.   Dr. Morrison has been seeing patients that come to him with an endless array of ailments, but after thirty days on his detox plan, most are feeling better.  His book goes into detail about where we are picking up toxins, the effect they are having on our health, and what we can do to get rid of them - a must-have for any library!

US Wellness Trivia Contest!

Enter for your chance to win a 15% discount code that can be applied to any one order under 40 lbs.  We will randomly draw 30 winners who email the correct answer on Sunday, April 24.  Promo codes will be emailed on Monday morning and will be active for 30 days.

This week's question: "The famous easter egg roll on the White House lawn is a tradition that dates back to what year?"  Please email your answers to jen@grasslandbeef.com.

Thanks to all who have been participating in our Trivia Contests! In the last news alert, we asked: What famous mail route started in the month of April back in 1860?  The answer was: The Pony Express.

Happy Easter Regards,

John, Lee Ann, Megan, Tressa, Jennifer and Amanda on behalf of the farm families of U.S. Wellness Meats

Question and Answer Column

Eric Seranno

Dear Dr. Serrano,

First I just want to say thank you for being available to answer questions. It is a tremendous gift to all of us.

I have been challenged with IBS for many many years now. About 8 years ago I started practicing colon hydrotherapy and learning and practicing healthy eating. Although I think what I have done for myself has helped, I am still not feeling as healthy as I know I can. I have just been diagnosed with hypo-thyroid and many vitamin deficiencies and am still waiting some other tests to come in. I have been taking Armour thyroid for just 3 days now. I always thought I could fix myself with good food and exercise but many times I lacked the energy to do either on a very consistent basis.  It seemed I would have the 2 steps forward 1 step back.

I guess my main question is, if my thyroid was/is not working properly then my digestion has been impaired so I was not in fact getting what I needed to feed my body. If this supplement helps my thyroid, which helps my digestion, can my thyroid become healthy again so that I won't have to take a supplement? I just want to have a body that works the way it was intended, and I believe that is with joy and vitality!!

Sincerely,

Jami

Dear Jami,

Thank you for your compliments.  About your IBS, it is another word to let you know that as doctors we do know you are having pain but we do not know what is causing it. As a physician that believes in both the "dark" side of medicine and the "good" side, physicians just treat the symptoms and not the cause, and I am going to give you some guidelines of how I treat this in my office.

1.  You were diagnosed with hypothyroid, which I think is related to your IBS, because:

a) food allergies

b) nutritional deficiencies

2.  First thing get a food allergy test, only IMMUNO LABS in this case please, sorry but it is the best one and no, I don't make any money with it.

3.  Until you find out what you are allergic to, eliminate wheat, dairy, peanuts, eggs, and soybeans.

4.  Start supplementing with digestive enzymes.  I use prescription, www.klaire.com or www.innateresponse.com .

If you want to use any of those companies, call them tell them what you do, and they might work a deal with you, if not, for Klaire use code: 614 and for Innate use code: SER030.

5.  Take probiotics. I have tried all of them: use Flora 20/14 or 50 depending how bad your belly feels.

6.  Yes, you can fix your thyroid depending on what is causing the problem and where are you with your thyroid.  Sometimes you might need to treat with Armour Thyroid, that by the way in 15-30% of the population I have seen failures, but if you want to supplement your thyroid I use two companies: www.standardprocess.com or RLC labs, they are both good.  Standard Process has two products that really help, and they work but they do take time, and again depending on the reason of your low thyroid.

7.  Standard Process products are Thytrophin PMG and Trace Minerals B12 - take six twice a day of each for three months, if no response then try Armour Thyroid, again this is depending on what the reasons of your condition are.  Armour Thyroid also helps your thyroid get better due to the ingredients in it.

Good Luck,

Dr. Serrano

Customer Feedback
Beef FranksHi there,

I recently ordered from you and just shared my amazing experience with your product on my blog.

It's nothing much - just hot dogs - which is why I was so surprised that clearly, hot dogs were not created equal!

Wholesale Hello!

We are happy to introduce a new section in our News Alerts that will shine some light on a featured US Wellness Wholesale customer.  We have many wholesale outlets around the country that many customers may not be aware of, so this is our chance to brag about them!  If you are interested in becoming a US Wellness wholesaler, simply drop us an email at: eathealthy@grasslandbeef.com.

Thyme Square Chef Cory ShupeOur second Wholesale Hello! takes place at our closest wholesaler, who is right across the river from us in Quincy, IL.  Thyme Square Cafe is a cozy little restaurant just blocks away from the banks of the Mississippi River whose menu is based on the changing seasons and the meat and produce that is at its peak that time of year.  We currently supply them with a variety of products, from Beef Brisket to Rabbit Striploin.

US Wellness Meats has been honored to be the "Featured Farmer" at two of their recent Feature Farmer Dinners.  Chef Cory Shupe created two completely different menus based on several different products of ours, each a five course meal, and founder John Wood was able to explain to diners where each course came from and why it was beneficial to them.  Many of our staff members also got to enjoy the festivities, as seen in the photo above with Chef Cory.

If you are ever in the Quincy, IL area, be sure to stop by!

US Wellness - Supporting Our Troops

Supporting Our Troops
As the war on terror continues to rage in the Middle East, we continue to follow and support our troops both at home and abroad who work daily to protect our freedom.  Beginning in our 2011 News Alerts we will focus on different organizations and individuals who are making a difference in the lives of our American Soldiers.

SocksforSoldiersSomething most of us take for granted is something that is critical to the morale of soldiers serving abroad: good socks!  Fox River Socks for Soldiers is addressing that need and making it easy to make a soldiers' day.  If you know a soldier you would like to surprise with a pair (or 6!) of heavy duty socks simply place the order on their website, and if it is shipping to an APO address, shipping is free.

They have compiled a wishlist from troops serving abroad with the types and sizes of socks that are needed, so if you don't have a particular soldier in mind, anyone on the list would love to receive some socks.  If you are a deployed soldier and would like to put your unit on the wishlist, simply fill out this form.

It is amazing what this group has done so far!  Just visit their fulfilled wishes page to see how many lives they have touched.  If you want to take part, visit their website now.
