Recipe Corner - Italian Seasoned 50/50 Sausage Patties

Dear John,
Thank you for reading our first mid week News Alert.  The reason for the change is to accommodate the increasing number of people reading emails on their mobile devices.  Our goal is to provide the same great information you have come to expect in a format that is easier to read on your phone.  So it will come two times a week with less information to digest in each issue.  An added benefit for you frequent purchasers is that you will receive current information on our changing inventory and related news.

The headline meat news this week was the anti beef article published by the World Health Organization.   If you read it closely, you will note processed meats with preservatives was one of the major health culprits.  US Wellness has shunned preservatives since our inception in 2000.  So you can rest easily when consuming our high quality grass fed beef products like steaks, roasts, and ground beef.  Also keep in mind in 1900 only 2% of us were diabetic and heart disease and cancer were not fully discussed as concern until the 1920's by the Mayo Clinic.  Yes, we ate predominantly grass-fed beef prior to the 1920's.  Health has spiraled out of control in the last 50 years.

In this week's article from Scott Mendelson, he shares a workout routine that he recommended to a client to help meet their goal of burning 10lbs of fat and gaining 10 lbs of muscle in just 12 weeks.  Check it out below.

The reprinted article from Kat James, which we featured in last Sunday's newsletter really struck a chord with many of you.  Because of your response, Kat saw a record week of sign-ups for her site.  She asked us to pass along her thanks and expressed her excitement about sharing her experience and wisdom with you.

In her article, Beyond Paleo, Kat shares her amazing journey from obesity and food addiction to wellness.  If you missed the article and would like to see what the excitement was about click to read the entire article.

Recently some of you may have experienced difficulty trying to login to your account during order checkout.  This issue was created by an online shopping security compliance update we completed last week.  The web platform is tested every month to make sure hackers cannot compromise the software system.  The level of security continues to improve monthly.   If you experienced trouble,  it is likely that you are using a browser that is not compatible with the new security guidelines.   Click here for a list of compatible browser versions to correct the website checkout process.  We apologize for the hassle, but it is necessary medicine to insure super secure checkout.

The Grassfed Exchange is seeking a Volunteer Social Media Director.  The Grassfed Exchange Social Media Coordinator will receive free travel, registration and hotel at the Grassfed Exchange annual conference during their tenure, and be an important part of the GFE leadership community.  If you have an interest click here for more information.

Burn 10 lbs of Fat & Gain 10 lbs of Muscle In 12 Weeks With this Rep Routine
Scott,

I have been reading your column for a while and it seems most of the info is geared to fat loss training.  I would like to gain 10 pounds of muscle while losing 10 pounds of body fat. I want to improve my physique, reduce the likelihood of injury and increase my strength to do chores around my ranch part time.  What training and nutrition approach do you suggest to achieve these goals?

Ray

Ray I would suggest a Tri Phase Rep executions routine to support your goal of losing 10 pounds of body fat while gaining 10 pounds of muscle.  As we discussed by email your goal is to accomplish this in 12 weeks along with improved functional strength which goes hand in hand with injury prevention.

Hickory Smoked Beef Back Ribs
Beef Back Ribs

"Love These Ribs"

Very good subtle, but good flavor. Nothing over the top to disguise the beef flavor.  Tastes like they came right off the grill. Easy to cook. Ordered these three times last year.   One time we just warmed in the crockpot and another we put on the grill for 30 minutes on low.  So good, when my sister came to visit we made sure we ordered some. Sort of pricey, but cheaper than going out to a BBQ place where you don't know the ingredients, or can't eat them, plus there they are from factory farm.  A splurge for us, but we only have them a few times a year. We order 3 packages for the two of us. The bones are picked clean when we are done, nothing but bones to throw out.  Recommend these big time!

Italian Seasoned Sausage Patties
Italian Spiced 50/50 Sausages
Author: Mickey Trescott
Prep Time:  20 min
Cook Time:  20 min

Serves:  8-10 Patties

Ingredients:
  • 1 pound grass-fed ground beef
  • 1 pound pastured ground pork
  • 1 tablespoon minced fresh oregano
  • 1 tablespoon minced fresh thyme
  • 1 tablespoon minced fresh parsley (optional)
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ½ teaspoon sea salt
  • 1 tablespoon solid cooking fat (coconut oil, lard, beef tallow, or duck fat)

Directions:
  1. Place the ground beef, pork, herbs, garlic powder and salt in a large bowl and combine well with your hands.
  2. Form into 8-10 patties and place on a plate.
  3. Heat the solid cooking fat in the bottom of a cast-iron skillet or frying pan on medium heat.
  4. When the fat is melted and the pan is hot, add patties, cook 10 minutes a side, or until thoroughly cooked. You may have to do this in two batches.
  5. Alternately, you can bake them at 400 degrees for 20 minutes or until they are cooked throughout.

Variation: Feel free to switch up the protein in these--you can make them 100% beef or pork, or add some lamb into the mix!
