This time of year is prime soup season! Soups with a rich stock or broth as a base can be very soothing to the mind and body. A good soup with whole food ingredients can improve your gut health which helps with natural immunities during a nasty winter. Whether you start with broth from chicken, turkey, beef, or even fish — soup is usually a little quicker to make and tends to be thinner. There are also slightly thicker soups like cream of "whatever" soups, bisques, and chowders. If you like something a little heartier, stew is a great option. However, a good stew isn't just about how thick or chunky it is. It's also about the slow, low-heat cooking of the meats. Stew starts with seared meat, then it's low and slow, often simmering for 1-2 hours or more. This allows the fats and connective tissues in the meat to break down, and any bones to release their marrow into the mix. It's OK to choose a less expensive piece of meat for a stew because it will slowly become tender at lower heat.
Soups and stews can feed a lot of people while stretching the food budget. They also offer the opportunity to practice "nose to tail" cooking. Order by Friday, 2/3, and we'll ship your fresh bundle on Wednesday, 2/8.
Our normal shipping schedule is Monday - Wednesday. Any order placed after 10 am (CST) Wednesday will ship the following week. Most orders are delivered to your door within 24-48 hours of leaving our facility.
