Tips For Fighting Diabetes?

January 13, 2008

Dear John,

We are on our way into 2008. How are you doing with your New Year's Resolutions? Now is the time the average person begins to drop those well-meaning resolutions that seemed so important on January 1. Don't be average...reaffirm those resolutions and vow to stick by them.

Be sure to include 'Eating healthier', along with eating less processed foods, and eating more REAL foods. Many of the processed foods we now buy in the grocery stores are labeled as 'health food', when in reality, you may be eating by-products of  food processing that were previously ingredients that were regarded as waste. Don't be duped into media hype of packaged, processed foods. Eat food as close to nature and the way God made it.
Eat U.S. Wellness Grass-fed Meats, Cheeses and Snacks. You can be sure you are eating REAL food that is good for your body.

Thank you so much for your continued support as our loyal customers. We will do our best to provide you with the highest quality products and customer service.

Warmest January regards,

John, Lee Ann, Megan and Lacey

Four Equals Fourteen More Years

Just four healthy lifestyle indicators could determine whether you live an extra fourteen years or not. These lifestyle behaviors include: non-smoking, physical activity, moderate alcohol consumption, and eating five servings of fruit or vegetables a day.

Researchers at the University of Cambridge and the Medical Research Council looked at 20,000 men and women, aged 45-79, who filled out a questionnaire about four health behaviors.

The participants, who did not have a health history that included any known cancers, cardiac or circulatory disease, filled out the questionnaire between 1993 and 1997 and were followed until 2006.

Just following one of these behaviors helps, but every step you make to improve your health seems to have an added benefit.

The benefits were also seen regardless of whether  people were overweight, or what social class they came from. The findings were published Monday in the Public Library of Science Medicine journal.

The study participants were given a score of '1' for each of the positive health behaviors they followed on a regular basis.

Researchers tracked deaths in the study group including deaths from cardiovascular disease, cancer, and respiratory disease, up until 2006. People who scored a point in each of the four lifestyle categories were four times less likely to die than those who scored zero in lifestyle behaviors, the research showed.

After they factored in age, the researchers found that participants with zero points were four times more likely to have died over an average period of 11 years than those with four points.

In addition, the study authors concluded that participants with a score of zero had the same risk of dying as someone 14 years older with a score of four. This was independent of body-mass index (BMI) and social class.

While the findings need to be confirmed in other populations and an analysis of how these combined health behaviors affect quality of life is needed, the researchers said the results suggest that these four healthy lifestyle behaviors could markedly improve the health of middle-aged and older people.

The study should convince people that improving their health does not always require extreme changes to their lifestyles.

"This research is an important piece of work which emphasizes how modifying just a few risk factors can add years to your life," said Dr. Tim Armstrong, a physical activity expert at the World Health Organization.

The study is part of the European Prospective Investigation into Cancer and Nutrition (EPIC), conducted in 10 European countries. EPIC is the largest-ever study of diet and health.

There is strong evidence that individual lifestyle factors such as smoking, diet and physical activity influence health and longevity, but there has been little research into their combined impact, according to background information in a news release about the study.

But because the study only observed people rather than testing specific changes, experts said that it would be impossible to conclude that people who suddenly adopted these healthy behaviors would automatically gain 14 years.

"We can't say that any one person could gain 14 years by doing these things," said Armstrong. "The 14 years is an average across the population of what's theoretically possible."

GRASS-FED POWERED ATHLETE CORNER
Jon Andersen
Strength Update from the West Coast

Jon Andersen hit the ground running in 2008 on the heels of a late 2007 back surgery.  Jon reports the surgery went excellent and is exceeding recovery paces set by his medical staff.

Knowing Jon since early 2004, it is no surprise he could incur a disc issue due to his Herculean training  and competition over the past 4 years.  Jon is convinced his diet of grass-fed beef sped up his knee surgery recovery 18 months ago and is doing the same from a very delicate back operation in December.

The following link will give you an idea what Jon's training regime consists of.  However, most fans are far more curious how Jon plans his meals for the day.  Not the typical diet but at 6'1" and 310 pounds with miniscule body fat,  Jon is not your typical man.

We wish Jon a rapid recovery in 2008 enabling him to follow his athletic pursuits to upmost of his unique ability.

 WHAT'S IN YOUR "ENERGY BAR"?

If you are interested in your health in the least bit, you know that candy bars are not the best form of food for you. Loaded with sugar, and short on protein, they give the body a quick lift without providing any real nourishment. The lift soon gives way to a letdown and you feel hungrier than before. Many also contain hydrogenated oils and a slew of artificial ingredients.

But candy bars are so convenient, and they can be found virtually everywhere. They have a long shelf life and can be sold in vending machines. They taste good-actually they can be addictive-and can stave off hunger and cravings. But they elevate your blood sugar and make you gain weight. Even athletes use them for an easy, quick dose of energy. So what choices can a health conscious consumer make do in this candy bar culture?

Energy bars to the rescue. They look and taste like candy bars, have the shelf life of candy bars, contain protein and fiber, and are loaded with vitamins and minerals. They are convenient, easy to throw in a pocket or purse, and they taste good. But somehow we have been duped into thinking this is 'healthy snack food', or worse yet, a 'meal replacement'.

The original energy bars, such as the Power Bar and the Source Bar, were based on so-called 'natural' sweeteners-high fructose corn syrup and juice concentrates-along with dried fruits and nuts, a combination that resulted in higher percentages of carbohydrates than the typical chocolate candy bar (which is rich in cocoa butter, a healthy natural fat.)

The energy bar industry exploded with the advent of cheap soy and whey proteins that could be added to make a 'high-protein' bar. Balance Bars ("The Complete Nutritional Food Bar") and ZonePerfect Bars ("All Natural Nutrition Bars"), and Atkins Bars were among the first to hit the shelves as energy/protein bars.

But there is nothing natural about the protein used in today's energy bars.

How Diabetics Can Live to be 100 Years Old

By Shane "The People's Chemist" Ellison

As a medicinal chemist, I'm often asked, "How can I live to be a 100 years old?"  My answer is simple, "Learn to control blood sugar and insulin."

The biggest threat to longevity is high blood sugar and insulin.  Known as type II diabetes - or more accurately insulin resistance - it has become a nationwide epidemic that steals 11 to 20 years from a person's life span.  It is one of the main culprits behind depression, obesity, heart disease and even cancer. Understanding two simple facts about the pandemic killer may help you avoid it - and live to be 100 years old rather than 65 or 70!

Fact #1: Anti-Diabetic Drugs like Avandia and Actos are Deadly

DR. ERIC SERRANO M.D., M.S., B.C.
Eric Seranno
Hi Dr. Serrano,

I had breast cancer, small lumpectomy and radiation, 2 years ago. Since then, I've tried a few different food plans. Most of the plans I see for prevention of cancer and treatment of cancer feature raw and sprouted foods, with wheat grass and other green drinks, etc. I tried that for a few months, and then found grass-fed organic beef, chicken, and raw organic dairy product. I lost my taste for all the raw foods, and seem to thrive on the meat/dairy products with vegetables and some fruits. However I keep finding more and more people and information that stresses how bad meat is, particularly for phlegm, lymph system, and cancer. Do you have any information that will make me feel better about including grass-fed and organic meats in my diet?

The best things about the raw foods were the amazing desserts made out of avocado, nuts, coconut oil, etc. However, I wound up gaining almost 20 pounds gorging myself on those delicious raw treats, sweetened with organic agave, but still sweetened.

Another school of thought for treatment of cancer is to include salmon, and lean chicken, but no red meat. I really like red grass-fed beef, and I want to stay healthy and thrive. Is that possible?

Thanks for your opinions.

Sincerely,

Marcia

Dear Marcia:

My apologies for taking so long to answer your question and my prayers are with you.

I hope you can go back and read about fats in the web site because it will explain why eating organic meats is different than typical supermarket store meats. The researchers are correct in letting you know that fats are bad for you but they are wrong when they don't distinguish between sources and type of fat.

If you follow major research done in cancer, one common denominator is corn oil, if you don't believe me, check it out. We are all humans but biochemically different due to multiple environmental influences and life styles.

Your body knows best and by your explanation if I were you I will stick with meat and diary products, but not regular commercial dairy products, because of the type of fat of the dairy products. Keep your intake of milk to a minimum because to find good raw milk is almost impossible. Also, add more vegetables to your diet, seasonal fruits, and nuts with some legumes, and remove all sources of sugar because cancer cells feed on sugar. Keep your intake of polyunsaturated fat low; so, no canola, soy or corn oil at all.

You do not have to consume raw foods to get better, just the right foods, and balance it. Your life must be in balance to be able to beat this, not only with diet, but with family, God, and the rest of the pie.

Limit your intake of fruits to seasonal fruits, and also no agave. In addition, add CoQ10, 600mgs; alpha lipoic acid, 600mgs,
and pancreatic enzymes, once per day.  Check www.youngsurvival.org,

Thank you and take care. Please keep in touch and let me know how you are doing.

$25  DISCOUNT FOR 40 LB. INCREMENTS

Do not forget to take advantage of the 40 pound $25 discount by ordering 40 pound combinations of beef, lamb, pork, butter, goat, shrimp and raw cheese.

This is our way of saying thank you for purchasing in volume. This can be any combination of products totaling 40 pounds and does not have to be specific to any category. Each 40 pound interval will yield the discount. For example, 80 pounds of product will yield a $50 discount and a 120 pound purchase will yield a $75 discount.

Important reminder:  If you are using a promo code for what ever reason, it will only work on orders under 40 pounds,  as the discount discussed above takes precedence on all order 40 pounds and up.

MINIMUM PURCHASE
Our new format enacted in April 2005 requires a $75 minimum purchase and a 7 pound minimum combined purchase of beef, lamb, pork, nutraceuticals, gourmet rabbit, soap, organic shrimp, grass-fed goat, grass-fed bison, raw cheese, organic snacks, laundry soap, condiments, single piece poultry, and butter.

The issue is the bulk chicken and ten pound cheese bundles originate from separate cold storage centers where those products are produced. It is not efficient to ship one package of beef as a stand alone item when the balance of the order originates 400 miles away.

The shopping cart will keep track and remind you if you are under the 7 pound limit for a combination of beef, lamb, pork, raw cheese, butter, goat, shrimp, soap, organic snacks, laundry soap and condiments purchases. Red font will appear under the shopping cart if you are under the minimum price or pound requirements.
