The Magic Number That Leads to Happiness

Most Americans have two positive experiences for every negative one, according to Barbara Fredrickson, a psychologist and positive-emotions researcher. This sounds like it would set you up for positive emotional health, but this 2:1 positivity ratio is only enough for you to barely get by.

In order to flourish emotionally, Fredrickson's research shows you need a 3:1 ratio. (1) That is, you need to have three positive emotions for every one negative emotion.

Flourishing mentally is described as being beyond happiness "in that it encompasses both feeling good and doing good."(2) Only 20 percent of Americans achieve this critical ratio, which means 80 percent do not.

Customer Feedback
Grass Fed Beef Gelatin

"Delicious!"

I'd ordered the beef broth before and loved it. This time, I thought I'd try the beef gelatin. It was very thick and gelatin-like, and it was amazingly delicious. I thawed it immediately and then divided it up into 10 containers, each with some of the beef bacon tips I ordered from you. Then, when I'm filling the slow cooker with soup, I just take a container out of the freezer and put it in there with all the other ingredients. This really enhances the flavor and I'm so sensitive that I can tell it greatly adds to the nutritional value when I eat it. So pleased to have found such a great and great-tasting product!

Cranberry Braised Short Ribs
Cranberry Braised Short Ribs
Author: Mickey Trescott
Difficulty: moderate
Prep Time:  5 min
Cook Time: 3 hours
Serves: 3-4

Ingredients:
  • 1 tablespoon coconut oil
  • 4 lbs beef short ribs
  • 1½ cups bone broth
  • 1 cup unsweetened cranberry juice
  • 1 cup fresh cranberries
  • 2 tablespoons apple-cider vinegar
  • 1 bay leaf
  • 2 tablespoons fresh parsley
  • sea salt to taste
Directions:
  1. Preheat your oven to 300 degrees. Heat the coconut oil in a heavy-bottomed pot (ideally cast iron) and brown the ribs on all sides. Turn off the heat, remove the meat, and salt it.
  2. Add the bone broth, cranberry juice, cranberries, cider vinegar, bay leaf and meat to the pot. The liquid should come up to about ⅓ of the height of the meat - if any less, add a little bit more broth or water. Making sure you have lid that fits tightly, braise for about 2-3 hours in the oven, checking periodically that there is enough liquid (you shouldn't have a problem if the lid seals well).
  3. Remove and cover the meat, strain the liquid and reduce about ½. Garnish with fresh parsley.
