"It's my belief that cooking is a craft. I think that you can push it into the realm of art, but it starts with craft. It starts with an understanding of materials. It starts with an understanding of where foods are grown.”  ― Tom Colicchio, Chef

Striving & Thriving

Perhaps the biggest difference between factory farming and regenerative farming is in the soil. Adding herbicides, pesticides, and artificial fertilizers to soil is an effort to be more profitable, but it also causes a breakdown in the natural balance.

In order for regenerative farming techniques to make sense for farm families, there must still be opportunity for profit. Yes, foods from these farms tend to cost a little bit more, but most people understand when something is well-made, more effort, time, and resources have gone into making it so. In recognizing the value of healthy soils, sustainable farming emphasizes quality and nutrition. It requires more attention to the land, grazing cycles, periods of rest, composting, cover crops, and lots and lots of sweat! When the conditions are in balance, nature has a way of regenerating, growing, and nourishing that cannot be accomplished artificially.

Cattle play a vitally important roll in soil health. When they graze, they're trampling grasses underfoot and adding natural fertilizers to the soil. This is composting in action. They actually help create soil. Learn more about the grass-fed difference on our blog.

grassfed steak

With Canadian geese flying in the distant background, and some summer annual grasses browned by a killing frost last week, it is apparent that Fall is showing it's hand in Missouri weather. As the seasons change the cattle start storing fat and growing thick hair coats. As soils cool, soil biology seeks lower levels to continue the magic of adding soil carbon and releasing nutrients for the above ground flora. This particular portion of the Wood family farm was far less productive 50 years ago. The past 23 years of grass based agriculture has increased soil carbon levels which increases fertility and soil water holding capacity. Soil erosion is almost nil in the past 23 years as this farm works to return to year 1800 conditions.

Order Minimums

All orders must weigh at least 7 lbs in order to ship, to ensure everything stays frozen during transit.

$75 minimum purchase requirement, since we have built the cost of shipping into the price of each product.

You will never be charged extra for shipping.

There is a $9.50 handling fee upon checkout that helps defray the cost of insulated packaging materials.

South Carolina Chicken Bundles ship from a separate location, so they are not included in the 7 lb weight minimum. The shopping cart will keep track and remind you if your order is under the 7 lb minimum.

BONUS Weight Discount

Receive a $25 discount for every 40 lbs you order. This offer excludes items that ship separate such as the South Carolina Chicken and Fresh Bundles.

This is our way of saying thank-you for purchasing in bulk!

This can be any combination of products totaling 40 lbs and does not have to be specific to any category. Each 40 lb interval will yield the discount - for example, order 80 lbs and we'll take $50 off!
