Drive Past The Drive Thru
Most of us have given in to the temptation to eat quick and easy at a fast food place. Drive right up to the menu board, order by number, and your sack of "food" is waiting for you at the next window. Fast food isn't necessarily inexpensive anymore, but it is convenient, and it can even taste good. Fast foods usually contain unhealthy doses of sugar, artificial coloring, sodium, preservatives, and a host of chemicals with long names. Of course, fast food can be lurking in your cupboard and refrigerator too. Some of the most notorious fast food culprits are: cereals, creamers, bleached flour, sodas and fruit juices, deep fried foods (vegetable oils), energy drinks, and desserts. Fast food is by definition, fast. But, it's not likely to do you any further favors than the initial convenience. Is convenience enough of a reason to give in to the temptation? That's an individual choice, but the last two years have taught us the importance of good nutrition and healthy lifestyles. Obesity and autoimmune disorders are at epidemic levels giving sickness of all types an advantage.
Fortunately, a little bit of effort can produce much better tasting, healthier, and even convenient meals for the whole family. You don't have to be a chef in a 5-star restaurant to be able to prepare a good meal. You do need to start with quality ingredients like 100% grass-fed and pasture-raised meats, sugar-free entrees, and all-natural whole foods. If you need to save time, see our Heat & Serve category with a variety of pre-cooked all natural entrees. Check out our Youtube channel and Discover Blog for numerous recipes and cooking demonstrations from nutritional experts, chefs, and health coaches. In this week's article, Dr. Mercola discusses why slow food is much better for us and how one mom is making a nutritional difference in the lives of hundreds of children.
